CYA Project

My third project consists of combining an older project that I felt was incomplete and my vision for it was not realized. Time constraints for that course did not permit me extra time to work through the issues with the piece. In this class, our first project was 100 found pieces. I am taking the concept of the 100 found objects and further exploring it by revisiting my feather project from last semester.

I forged a steel frame for the feather. In retrospect, I think the concept behind the frame was good but I moved too fast on this part of the project. If I had taken time to look at the frame before I completed welding it together, I would have found that it looked more like a pregnant leaf than a feather. It bums me out to look at it now because it doesn't look like a feather at all.

My thought process is to cut and remove the lower section of the frame. once removed I can take some time to remove the huge curve that gives it the pregnant look. I will also remove the front framing that was meant to hold the smaller feathers. After that, I will construct a new lower section and reconnect it to the top section. At this moment, I think I will re-add the smaller 1/2 round framing to the front, but depending on how it flows, I may introduce a different way to hang and attach the smaller feathers.

Another area I want to address is the top section which is supposed to be the quill part of the feather. Right now it looks like three, small connected sticks. I want to braid those up with a connected 1/2 round and make it much longer like it should be.

I don't want a selection of different mediums for the smaller feathers. I drew a template out and was to use the laser plasma cutter to cut out 120 of the template so that they are closely all the same. I will go in and detail them with a grinder and Dremel but I really want to try the larger plasma cutter.
